Ascension Catholic School Annual Fund

Help us provide a future full of hope!

Ascension is growing, and we are extra-ordinarily grateful to the many supporters who graciously give to make this possible. Our school is relentless in seeking a future full of hope for our students, one that breaks the cycle of poverty and brings abundance.

Our students experience a transformation at Ascension. They, and their families, engage in education that challenges them and prepares them for great things long after their time with us in grades K-8. Our students go on to compete at top-notch high schools; 100% of them graduate and 90% on to college. That’s compared with 40% of Minneapolis Public School African American and Latino students who graduate from high school. It’s easy to see why so many parents, donors, volunteers, educational partners believe in Ascension.

Along with our academic success, Ascension is fiscally conservative. Our annual cost per student is about $7,000. Minneapolis Public Schools spend double or triple that.

Most of our families are able to pay only a portion of the tuition, but we ensure that no child is turned away because of an inability to pay. The extreme generosity of individuals, foundations, companies and churches makes this possible. Because of so many who contribute time, talent and treasure, we are making a difference on Minneapolis’ North Side.

Church of the Ascension Annual Stewardship

Since our founding in 1890, Ascension has served as a place of worship, sanctuary and celebration for the people of North Minneapolis. Just as we welcomed Irish and other immigrants into our community more than 100 years ago, today our diverse parish welcomes people from throughout the world, including Latin America, Africa and South Asia, while of course remaining home to the many people who have worshipped here for generations.

Since 2008, we have been building on the vision of “Life in Abundance” to capture and express the flourishing vitality of our parish and neighborhood, a community that still has significant challenges and also provides a future full of hope! For 125 years Ascension has been and into the next century will continue to be a symbol of hope and an anchor of the North Side.
Here are some of the tangible results of our ministry:

  • We have built, and will continue to build, bridges between people of many different cultures and languages who fill our pews on Sunday mornings.
  • We are praying for and with those who have brought hundreds of prayer requests to our parish in the past year.
  • More than 1,500 bags of groceries, along with grocery gift cards, are distributed each year to people at church, school families and others in need.
  • Ascension feeds more than 2,700 neighborhood youth annually through a partnership with the YMCA.
  • 115 children are enrolled in our Spanish-speaking Faith Formation classes, and we have a waiting list.
