Since 2009, the Catholic bishops of Minnesota have designated the Feast of the Epiphany as “Immigration Sunday” and the following week as “National Migration Week.” This year’s theme is, “Building Communities of Welcome.” Immigration is about real people trying to find a better life and a new beginning. It’s about more than statistics: it’s about families. As Pope Francis has said, “Each migrant has a name, a face, and a story.” Our 129-year history is the story of immigrants from Ireland and Nigeria and Mexico and other distant places. All have found a home at Ascension, a community of welcome. What is YOUR immigration story? Share it with us. We will share some online and in the bulletin over the coming weeks.
