Today Jesus finds himself at the limits of being human, and as distant from God as he has ever been. Meaning is gone, his purpose has collapsed. He feels abandoned, separated from the source of life.
Perhaps you, in some suffering, some grief, have had that sad and sickening feeling.
Today Jesus shows us how to be and what to do when we’re at the edge of the abyss: Fall into it. The abyss seems to be the absence of God, but in truth, God is there: it is God’s presence, incomprehensible though it may be. God cannot not be present, even when it feels like emptiness or abandonment. So, while our cross may seem to be the place of God’s absence, it becomes the place of encounter with God. It is where human limits and divine mystery meet. Everything else may be lost, but God is most deeply present. Falling into the abyss is falling into God.
So, dare to suffer and grieve and die with Jesus today. Dare to fall into the abyss. Fall into God. Fall into love.

Hoy Jesús se encuentra en los límites como ser humano, tan distante de Dios como nunca lo ha estado. El sentido se ha ido, su propósito se ha desplomado. Se siente abandonado, separado de la fuente de la vida.
Tal vez tú, en algún sufrimiento, alguna pena, hayas tenido ese sentimiento triste y asqueroso.
Hoy Jesús nos muestra cómo ser y qué hacer cuando estamos al borde del abismo: Cae en él. El abismo parece ser la ausencia de Dios, pero en verdad Dios está allí: es la presencia de Dios, por incomprensible que sea. Dios no puede no estar presente, incluso cuando parezca vacío o abandono. Así que, mientras que nuestra cruz puede parecer el lugar de la ausencia de Dios, se convierte en el lugar de encuentro con Dios, donde los límites humanos y el misterio divino se encuentran. Todo lo demás puede perderse, pero Dios está más profundamente presente. Caer en el abismo es caer en Dios.
Atrévete a sufrir y lamentarte y morir con Jesús hoy. Atrévete a caer en el abismo. Cae en Dios. Cae en el amor.
